This service include the NHS Blood Pressure checking service and optional BMI calculation
Patients eligible for this service:
- If you are aged 40 years or older and you do not currently have a diagnosis
of hypertension.
- If you are under 40 and have a recognised family history of hypertension.*
- If you have been referred by your GP for the measurement of blood
pressure.
*This is at the healthcare professional's discretion.

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(ABPM) tests your blood pressure regularly over 24 waking hours, by using a cuff attached to a portable device. You can continue with your daily activities during this time.
An appointment for those starting contraception for the first time or after a break. This appointment is appropriate if you or the person you are booking the appointment for:
- Is aged 54 years or under*
- Has started their periods
- Is seeking a supply of oral contraception for contraceptive purposes:
- Starting the oral contraceptive pill for the first time or;

Norethisterone is a man-made version of progesterone. It can be taken to delay your period by working to keep your progesterone levels high to stop your womb lining shedding and causing a period.
To delay your period with norethisterone, you’ll need to start taking it 3 days before your period is due. Once you have finished your norethisterone course, your period should return within 3 days. The final price will be confirmed by the pharmacist after consultation as it will vary based on the length of treatment required

The emergency contraceptive pill, sometimes called the morning after pill, can stop a pregnancy happening after sex without contraception or if contraception fails.

The cholera vaccination is given orally and usually involves two doses, which need to be taken a minimum of 7 days apart. In order to be protected abroad, you need to finish the course at least one week before travelling.
Getting bitten by a mosquito while on holiday can be frustrating, but in some cases, it poses a significant health risk. The danger increases if you are bitten by the Aedes mosquito, which transmits Dengue fever. While Dengue fever may initially resemble a flu-like illness, it can escalate into a severe and potentially life-threatening condition. Since there is no cure for Dengue fever, prevention is the best approach.
If you are travelling to a risk area for polio or diphtheria, you may need the polio, diphtheria and tetanus vaccine. Whether you require this booster depends on the date of your last vaccination.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection which affects the human liver. The hepatitis A virus is usually ingested via contaminated food or water and is endemic to many countries where sanitation and access to safe food and water is poor.
Hepatitis B is a type of hepatitis, a viral infection which can cause damage to the liver. Unlike hepatitis A, the hepatitis B virus is not usually transmitted via contaminated water but rather via bodily fluids such as blood or via contaminated needles.
The combined vaccination protects against both Hepatitis A and B.
Japanese encephalitis is a viral disease which is transmitted by mosquitoes. The virus is found in pigs and birds, however if is spread to humans through mosquito bites. It can’t be passed from one person to another. Most people will have mild or no symptoms however the virus can cause severe symptoms and lead to serious long term complications.
Meningitis is passed from person to person who are in close contact via nasal or throat droplets, for example by coughing, sneezing or kissing. The meningitis ACWY vaccination protects you against infection from the A, C, W and Y types of bacteria.

Tick-borne encephalitis is a viral infection endemic to many European countries. If you are planning to stay in an area with a high occurrence of infected ticks, a TBE vaccination is the safest way of avoiding the infection. Shingles is an infection that causes a painful rash. It’s caused by the reactivation of varicella-zoster, the same virus that causes chickenpox. If you’ve had chickenpox in the past, this virus stays inside your body and can be reactivated, typically during times of stress or when the immune system is weakened. This service helps to protect against getting shingles. It’s suitable for adults aged 50 and over.
Whooping cough is a bacterial infection of the respiratory tract that causes coughing, that in infants can come with a characteristic “whoop” as they breath in, a well as fever, sore throat and increased production of mucus. This vaccine is only for pregnant women who want to protect their children against whooping cough in the first few months before the child can get vaccinated themselves.
Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps to keep your nerves and blood cells healthy. Our bodies don’t make Vitamin B12, it is obtained from foods such as meat, fish, milk and eggs. You may have a deficiency if you are vegan, don’t eat enough B12 rich food, or if you have other health conditions which mean you are unable to absorb it properly, such as pernicious anaemia.
